We Are Family
As we welcome new members in Westmount Church today, we talk about what it means to be family. (the pic below is from our last new members group in April)
How would you define family? It’s a great question. If you took eight chairs, and put them in a circle, and had eight people sit in them, and asked the question, what makes family, that would be an interesting discussion.
Same Blood? Same parents, grandparents, make us family? What about, same background? You grew up in Sioux Lookout? I was from Dryden! Suddenly you feel connected.
Or maybe, people who have the same passions as you do? Like, blue Jays Nation. Now, there’s a family. Why, because we something in common. We have our love of and our undying devotion to the Jays in common. We bleed blue.
The church is often described as family. We are brothers and sisters and when we’re together we feel as though we belong. For Jesus all are invited to this belonging. The only criteria is this:
“My family are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice” (Lk. 8:21)
I can boil that down for you. Know that God loves you, and then, love your neighbour.
Welcome to the family.
