‘Jesus is Greater than… Therefore’ Series – Worship Sunday November 22nd 2020 – Therefore Endure & Run
Bible Text: Hebrews 12: 1-13 | Preacher: Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Crawford | Series: Jesus is Greater than… | The author of Hebrews concludes this discussion of Jesus as “greater than” by encouraging the congregation to run and to endure hardships as discipline. It is fitting that this is the end of the series because this is where the rubber meets the road for many people in their faith. It is one thing to praise God when things are going well, but it’s another to try to make sense of difficult times.
As the book of Hebrews draws to a close, the author states another result of viewing Jesus as the greatest: that we run with perseverance. It isn’t enough to see Jesus as greater than everything else or even to respond in faith. We must also persevere in faith. Running involves shedding everything that slows us down, the things that hinder and the sin that entangles. It also involves keeping an eye on Jesus and following him down the path.
Having fixed our eyes on the greatness of Jesus, we are called to have faith, run with perseverance, and endure.
