You may not realize it, but the saying “a thorn in my side” comes from the Bible. I know, you’ve been using it for years to describe your ex-husband, ex-wife, boss, mother-in-law, father-in-law, neighbour, tennis coach . . . all the while you were quoting scripture and never knew it.
They’re the words Paul used when describing a condition that tormented him. Three times he asked God to take it away. Actually, the word is “pleaded”. He pleaded with God to relieve him of this pain.
