I love Rush. A band born and bred in Willowdale in the heart of the Big Smoke. They provided a good portion of the soundtrack to my 9th grade year.
They have a song called Closer to the Heart. Here are the first four lines. “And the men who hold high places.
Must be the ones who start
To mold a new reality
Closer to the Heart.”
The Gospel according to Rush is what that is. Wise words.
Here’s the same wisdom from the Hebrew scriptures. Words from Solomon: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23
I can’t say exactly what Neil Peart, who was the drummer for Rush, was thinking about when he wrote those four lines. But for Solomon, and for Jesus, and the prophets who came before, the closer we can get to the heart of God the closer we get to a new reality. Life can be very different with a changed heart.
Do you ever feel a need for a changed heart? Join us at this link if you’re curious around how that might happen. All are welcome.
